Nike has unveiled its latest offering in the commercial adaptive lacing section, the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0. This is in fact the first consumer-focused product in this category.
The shoe is targeted towards athletes. It tries to solve the typical problem of distraction which may affect their performance during the game.
When the wearer steps in the shoe, the heel hits a sensor located at the bottom. The sensor then detects and reacts, automatically tightening the shoe around the foot. Moreover, the two buttons located on the side can be used to tighten and loosen the grip to reach a comfortable level. So it is a nearly automatic solution as of now.
The team at Nike is willing to take this a step further. What if the shoe can automatically detect when the wearer needs it to be tightened or loosened? Maybe during the last few seconds of a race, or while chasing the striker in a soccer game, or while making that extra effort to complete the run in the game of cricket. If this comes to reality, this will take sports to a whole new level of healthy competition and excitedness, all thanks to technology.
The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 will be made available only to athletes having a Nike+ membership. It will be available in three colors at the beginning of the holiday season this year. There is no word on the pricing yet, but we expect it to be priced on the higher side given its uniqueness.
