Now that the OnePlus 5 has been launched let us have a look at how it stands out compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 3T. To upgrade, or not to upgrade? That is the question we will try to answer.

Camera

Let us start by talking about the all-new dual lens camera of the OnePlus 5, which is the main feature that OnePlus wants all of us to 'focus' on in the device.

The OnePlus 5 features two sensors at the back, namely a 16-megapixel primary lens with a f/1.7 aperture (believed to capture 34% more light than the OnePlus 3T) and a 20-megapixel lens with a f/2.6 aperture which is a telephoto lens used for the higher optical zoom. It also has a dual LED flash whereas the OnePlus 3T comes with only a single LED Flash. In comparison, the OnePlus 3T features a single 16-megapixel camera lens at the rear.

The front camera is a 16-megapixel lens with f/2.0 aperture in both the smartphones.

Battery

The new OnePlus 5 has a 3,300 mAh battery while its forerunner has a 3,400 mAh battery.

Although the OnePlus 5 seems to have a smaller battery capacity than the OnePlus 3T on paper, the company claims it to have a longer battery life thanks to various on-board hardware and software optimizations.

Design

While there are many changes concerning design in the OnePlus 5, it can be said that the rear design was inspired by the Apple iPhone 7 and looks very similar to the Oppo R11, which was announced earlier this month. It is worth mentioning here that Oppo is a sister-concern of OnePlus and Vivo, with the parent company being BBK Electronics.

The OnePlus 5 is the slimmest phone made by OnePlus so far at 7.25 mm thickness and weighs 153 grams compared to the OnePlus 3T which is 7.35 mm thick and weighs 158 grams.

Processor

The OnePlus 5 boasts the all new octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with four cores clocked at 2.45 GHz and the remaining four clocked at 1.9 GHz, whereas the OnePlus 3T has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset with two cores clocked at 2.35 GHz while the other two clocked at 1.6 GHz.

The OnePlus 5 also comes with the Adreno 540 GPU while its elder sibling comes with the Adreno 530 GPU.

Memory

The OnePlus 5 comes in two variants, namely a 6 GB RAM-64 GB internal storage (Slate Gray in color) and a 8 GB RAM-128 GB internal memory (Midnight Black in color), whereas the OnePlus 3T comes with 6 GB of RAM and an optional 64 or 128 GB of internal storage.

Also, the OnePlus 5 comes with UFS 2.1 storage, which helps in increasing the bandwidth by 50% compared to the OnePlus 3T which has the UFS 2.0 storage.

Bluetooth

The OnePlus 5 comes with the all-new and improved v5.0 whereas the OnePlus 3T has the v4.2. Read the difference between the two versions here.

Operating System

The OnePlus 5 comes with Android Nougat (7.1.1) while the OnePlus 3T comes with Android Marshmallow (6.0.1) out of the box, but is upgradable to the latest Android 7.1.1.

Price

The OnePlus 3T was released in November 2016 priced at $439 for the 64 GB variant and $479 for the 128 GB model. The Indian pricing is ₹29,999 and ₹34,999 respectively.

The OnePlus 5 is priced at $479 for the 6 GB RAM-64 GB variant and $539 for the 8 GB RAM-128 GB model. The Indian pricing is ₹32,999 and ₹37,999 respectively.

If you are a specifications guy/girl and love clicking other people or objects from your smartphone, upgrading to the OnePlus 5 is the way to go. However, if you are a selfie-enthusiast, there is no point wasting your hard-earned money to upgrade since the secondary camera lens setup is same on both the smartphones.

Hours before the official announcement, we have confirmed prices of both the variants of the device, thanks to our source. The one with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage is priced at ₹32,999. The 8 gigs RAM and 128 gigs storage variant will be sold at ₹37,999. It is to be noted that the US prices are $479 and $539 respectively, as announced two days ago. At the current currency conversion rate ($1 = ₹64.50), the figures are on a higher side with a difference of around 2-3 thousand Indian Rupees.

As far as other technical specifications are concerned, the OnePlus 5 features a 5.5-inch FHD display (1920x1080 pixels resolution) with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. The rear camera is a dual lens setup (20 MP + 16  MP), and the secondary camera is a 16 MP shooter. It boasts of a 3,300 mAh battery that supports quick charging. OnePlus 5 runs on Android Nougat.

The most anticipated flagship by the OnePlus family, or rather the next 'Flagship Killer,' the OnePlus 5, is finally launched worldwide with thousands of people witnessing the same over a web stream on the brand's social media channels.

After all the endless leaks and rumors surrounding this device, we now finally have the official specifications and features the OnePlus 5 boasts. Read on to find more.

The OnePlus 5 features a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920x1080) AMOLED display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protecting it. It is also the thinnest phone that OnePlus has ever made till date!

The smartphone sports an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with the availability of either 6 or 8 GB RAM along with 64 or 128 GB internal storage options. There is no memory card slot available.

It is also the first OnePlus phone to feature a dual-lens camera setup at the rear, or in other words, cameras (plural)! Unlike its other competitors who use the same megapixel on both the lenses, the OnePlus 5 has a combination of 20 MP lens (f/2.6 aperture) and a 16 MP lens (f/1.7 aperture). It also comes with a dual LED flash. On the front, it features a 16 MP lens (f/2.0 aperture).

OnePlus 5 comes with a 3,300 mAh battery which supports the proprietary Dash Charge technology. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with the OnePlus OxygenOS on the top.

There is a ceramic fingerprint sensor embedded in the Home button below the display. It boasts of a quick unlock time of just 0.2 seconds! The device comes with the Bluetooth 5.0 and supports NFC.

Riding on the success of OnePlus One, their debut smartphone, the company has launched its successor, OnePlus 2, to take the industry by storm. The OnePlus 2 smartphone had launched a few days ago via first-of-its-kind VR launch worldwide. In India, it will be available exclusively on Amazon, August 11 onwards. It is termed as the 2016 flagship killer by the OEM; we'll have to wait to see whether it lives up to the expectations. Regarding specifications, this smartphone features a full HD IPS display, powered by 1.8 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor. It comes with a 5.5-inch screen. It comes in two variants - 16 GB storage with 3 GB RAM, and 64 GB storage with 4 GB RAM. The 3 GB variant is expected to release sometime later in the year. It runs on OxygenOS (based on Android 5.1) and packs 3,300 mAh battery.

The smartphone features an IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. It has two capacitive buttons for Back and Recent on either side of the fingerprint-cum-home button, which is itself located below the display. Additionally, there is a 5 MP front facing camera lens located above the display, to the right of the earpiece, just opposite to the side where the buttons are located. There is a notification LED in between the camera and the earpiece.

The smartphone has high-end hardware that includes 1.8 GHz Qualcomm octa-core processor, 3/4 GB RAM, 16/64 GB internal memory, a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED flash located just above the camera lens. Just below the camera lens is the laser focus, Below the laser focus is the OnePlus branding.

The right side of the device features the volume rocker key (located on the top) and the power key (located below it). The smartphone supports dual nano SIM, which can be inserted by removing the back cover. In addition to the signature Sandstone Black, the smartphone will be available in a varied range of covers, including Bamboo, Black Apricot, Rosewood, and Kevlar.

The 3.5 mm headset jack is at the top left while the secondary microphone is located just beside it, to the right.

The USB C port is at the bottom center. The speaker grilles are located on either side of the USB port.

The left side of the device features a unique tri-state slider, called the alert slider. It can change the device settings from "no notifications" (mute) to "priority notifications" to "all notifications".

Coming in at 9.85 mm depth, the phone feels outstanding in the hand with its curved edges. The device is a tad heavier when compared to its predecessor.
