[Smartphone] Blackberry Priv officially confirmed to run on Android

With so many rumors regarding an Android-powered device by Blackberry floating around, the company decided to officially clear its stance on the matter. Originally rumored to be named Blackberry Venice, the financial report published by the OEM names the smartphone as Blackberry Priv, which is a short name for Privacy.

The device is confirmed to run on Android OS. It will also be backed by the renowned Blackberry security system, thus maintaining the trust people have in the brand name.

The smartphone will be a flagship from the house of Blackberry. It will offer best-in-class security to enterprise users, and will feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard.

The company also made clear that even if it is all set to enter the Android ecosystem, it is also committed to the in-house OS, the Blackberry 10 operating system. Version 10.3.3 of this OS is scheduled to release in March next year.

The CEO went on camera to showcase the device. He claims it to run on Google, which is effectively Android. It features a sliding physical QWERTY keyboard with capacitive sensors, and possesses a curved display.

In terms of specifications, the smartphone features an IPS display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset with 3 GB RAM. It comes with 5.4-inch screen. The internal storage is 32 GB, and is expandable up to 128 GB. It runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
