[Hands on] Gionee Elife S7

After the huge success of Gionee Elife S5.5, the sexiest phone in the world, the Chinese OEM has launched another fabulous smartphone - the Gionee Elife S7. In terms of specifications, this smartphone features a Super AMOLED full HD display, powered by 1.7 GHz MediaTeK 6752 octa-core processor with 2 GB RAM. It comes with a 5.2 inch screen. The internal storage is 16 GB. There is no expandable memory though. It runs on Android 5.0 with Gionee's skin, the Amigo OS, and packs 2,700 mAh battery.

The smartphone features a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. It has three capacitive buttons for Menu, Home and Back. Unlike other phones, all of these buttons are placed on the display, and not on the bezel. This makes the device a bit awkward to use due to our habit of using these buttons on the bezel. Additionally, there is a 8 MP front facing camera lens located above the display just to the right of the earpiece, just opposite to the side where buttons are located.

The smartphone has high-end hardware that includes 1.7 GHz MediaTeK 6752 64-bit octa-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal flash memory (non-expandable), a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash located on the right of the camera lens. The USP of this device is that the camera does not protrude out of the body. Only Gionee slim phones have cameras with no protrusion, making them really slim. At the top part on the rear, in the center, is the Gionee branding.

The right side of the device features the power key and the volume rocker key. The 3.5 mm headset jack is at the bottom right. The micro USB port is at the bottom center. The speakers are located just beside the micro USB port on its right, while the microphone is located on its left. The device has a non-removable back. The smartphone supports dual SIM, which can be inserted by opening the SIM tray present on the left side of the device. Both the SIM support 4G as well as 3G. This is the first ultra slim phone to do so.

Coming in with 5.5 mm depth, the phone feels outstanding in the hand with its U-shape design. The unique ergonomic side profile provides an extremely comfortable grip for one-handed use, even though the screen size is big.
