[Hands on] Meizu M1 Note

After being highly successful in the home market, Chinese OEM Meizu has finally decided to enter the lucrative Indian market to take the home competitors head-on. In the company's very first press meet in the country, Meizu M1 Note was unveiled, which is likely to hit the market very soon. In terms of specifications, this smartphone features a full HD display, powered by 1.7 GHz Mediatek MT6752 Cortex A53 octa-core processor with 2 GB RAM. It comes with a 5.5 inch screen. The internal storage is 16 GB. There also exists a 32 GB variant. There is no expandable memory though. It runs on Android 4.4 with Meizu's skin, the Flyme OS, and packs 3,140 mAh battery.

The smartphone features a IGZO display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. It has a round button, just like the Apple iPhone, but a little smaller in size. Additionally, there is a 5 MP front facing camera lens located above the display, to the very right, just opposite to the side where the button is located.

The smartphone has high-end hardware that includes 1.7 GHz MediaTeK MT6752 64-bit octa-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16/32 GB internal flash memory (non-expandable), a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED flash located just below the camera lens. At the bottom part on the rear, in the center, is the Meizu branding. The device has a non-removable back.

Meizu M1 Note right

The smartphone supports dual micro SIM, which can be inserted by opening the SIM tray present on the right side of the device. The box contains a pin to ease this process. Both the SIM support 4G as well as 2G.

Meizu M1 Note top

The 3.5 mm headset jack is at the top left. Just next to it is the secondary microphone. The power key is present at the top right, just like the iPhone, again. (I do not understand the obsession of these Chinese OEMs with Apple devices. Remember that Xiaomi Mi 4 (review) closely resembles iPhone).

Meizu M1 Note bottom

The micro USB port is at the bottom center. The speakers are located just beside the micro USB port on its right, while the primary microphone is located on its left.

Meizu M1 Note left

The left side of the device features the volume rocker keys. I say keys because there are two keys for volume control, unlike other Android devices, but very much like the iPhone. Huh! Not again!

Coming in at 145 g and 8.9 mm depth, the body of the phone is made up of plastic. This gives the device a cheap look.
