[Review] Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100

After the huge success of Samsung Galaxy Note N7000, the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 has finally made its way to the market. It has to be the best phone ever created. When one opens the box, there is a sense of awe. People ask, "Is this really a phone?" Yes, this was one of the many surprising reactions I got. It is an amazing piece of hardware. I have tried many android devices so far, but this is the sleekest and one of the best so far. It is fabulous! The phone is very big, that is the first impression I got.

The screen of the phone is an enlarged capacitive screen which makes it a lot of fun to interact with. This display provides a high quality HD resolution which is great to watch movies and video on. The phone comes with the TouchWiz user interface which serves to enhance the usability of the device. The phone possesses a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit, thus enhancing the visual experience for the user.

The phone comes in a bar form. The operating system is backed up by a powerful processor which ensures that applications on the phone are run in a smooth manner.

The device features a primary camera which is backed up by an LED flash to click pictures in low light. The camera doubles up to record Full HD video and play HD video as well. The camera features other useful features such as Auto-focus, Geo-tagging, Touch focus and image stabilization that serve to enhance the usability of the camera. The phone also sports a secondary camera so that the user can conduct video calling easily.

The camera serves some really futuristic ideas also. It can check if you are looking at the phone and disable screen lock (even if you set timeout to say 30 sec). Also it can serve as password unlock. Amazing! These can be set from Settings Menu.

The phone comes with a number of useful features to keep you connected to the internet from anywhere. The device comes with GPRS and EDGE technology which allow the user to connect to the internet via the 2G network. For a faster browsing experience, the phone possesses HSDPA and HSUPA technology which makes the 3G capability much quicker. This Samsung device is capable of connecting to a wireless network in the user's immediate vicinity as the phone is WiFi capable. The phone can be tethered to another device using the WiFi hotspot functionality.

The frame of this Samsung Galaxy device is a sleek and stylish one, with straight edges meeting at nominally curved corners. The phone comes with multiple useful sensors such as the accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyro sensor, barometer and geo-magnetic sensor that make the phone a highly efficient device. The position of power button is at an excellent position for your hand.

Social networking Apps include Twitter which will let the user stay connected to friends and family at home, work or on the move. There is a led light on the top left of the device so you will know when you have a notification. Additionally, the phone comes with features such as Air View, Popup note, Quick command and voice input which combine with all the other features to make this Samsung galaxy device a worthy buy.

It also acts as an excellent navigation aid in the form of Google maps which uses the A-GPS and GLONASS technology inbuilt into the phone. The phone is an active entertainment aid as it comes with a music player, video player and an FM radio.

I strongly suggest going through Settings and customizing many things as per your desires. I did Voice Input, Keyboard (this comes with English(UK), change to English(US) for example). Fiddle around the settings and you will be amazed how much you can customize. I also did battery percentage to appear in the notification bar. Also customize the accent. It can do magics while typing. I type paragraphs within less time effortlessly. These are Google back-end servers at work. The Mic does a fantastic job!

S-Pen is truly impressive. Samsung seems to have nailed it. I wrote up a completely random equation in the Equation mode, and the beast recognized it perfectly and asked it to search. To my surprise, it went to Wolfram Alpha and solved it! Export to pdf is very good. The main thing is the pen is very fluid and feels like a fountain pen writing.

1. Enough RAM to kill any app ever made on this Earth.

2. Capable GPU to run any graphic intensive app like butter, without any hand or lag.

3. S-Voice can do whatever you command - call, text, alarm, meeting - you name it.

4. S-Pen, better than that of Samsung Galaxy Note N7000, makes note-taking easier.

5. Fast in processing.

6. Better colors than earlier Samsung phones.

7. Sharp display, thanks to the RGB matrix.

8. Up-to-date Google Maps.

9. Apps can be multi-screened.

Why you shouldn't buy it?

1. Speakers are at the bottom.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Verdict

Due to its huge size, the device is not suitable for people with smaller hands. Do not gift it to females, as its weight doesn't allow to hold it comfortably for long. (Unless they plan to carry it in their handbag, of-course.)

Other than that, it is definitely a buy if you can afford it.
