[Hands on] Coolpad Dazen X7

Another Chinese OEM has finally decided to enter the lucrative Indian market to take the home competitors head-on. Coolpad launched Dazen X7 smartphone two days ago in an event in New Delhi. It is likely to hit the market on June 9 via Snapdeal. In terms of specifications, this smartphone features a FHD display, powered by 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6595 octa-core processor with 2 GB RAM. It comes with a 5.2 inch screen. The internal storage is 16 GB, which is expandable up to 32 GB. It runs on Android 4.4, and packs 2,700 mAh battery.

The smartphone features an AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. It has three capacitive buttons for Menu, Home and Back. Unlike other phones, all of these buttons are placed on the display, and not on the bezel. This makes the device a bit awkward to use due to our habit of using these buttons on the bezel. Even Gionee Elife S7 (hands-on experience) has the same setup. Additionally, there is a 8 MP front facing camera lens located above the display, to the left of the earpiece, just opposite to the side where the buttons are located.

The smartphone has high-end hardware that includes 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6595 octa-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 internal flash memory (expandable up to 32 GB), a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED flash located just below the camera lens. At the bottom part on the rear, in the center, is the Coolpad branding. The device has a non-removable back.

The right side of the device features the power key. The smartphone supports dual SIM, which can be inserted by opening the SIM tray present on the right side of the device. One thing to note is that either of these trays are also to be used as a microSD slot. That means if you you decide to expand the storage of the device, you will have to live with a single SIM. On the contrary, if you choose to use both the SIMs, you will have to live with the in-built storage only.

The 3.5 mm headset jack is at the top right. On the left of the headset jack is the secondary microphone.

The micro USB port is at the bottom center. The speakers are located just beside the micro USB port on its right, while the primary microphone is located on its left.

The left side of the device features the volume rocker key.

Coming in at 141 g and 6.5 mm depth, the phone is slim and feels outstanding in the hand.
