[Comparison] Huawei Nexus 6P vs. LG Nexus 5X

At an event in San Francisco last month, Google has announced two new Nexus devices, the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P. Huawei now becomes the first Chinese manufacturer to develop a Nexus device. LG, on the other hand, has already manufactured Nexus 5 before. One of our friend is a huge Nexus fan. She already owns a Nexus 5 (Nexus 6 was too big in size). Now she is willing to upgrade, but is confused. This post compares both the smartphones on various parameters, and tries to clear the confusion.


Huawei Nexus 6P vs LG Nexus 5X

Build


Nexus 6P has a premium metal (aluminium) build, while Nexus 5X is made of polycarbonate plastic. The black bar at the rear top on the 6P is made up of glass.


Processor


Nexus 6P runs on 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 2 GHz octa-core processor, coupled with Adreno 430 GPU. Nexus 5X boasts of 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 1.8 GHz hexa-core chipset, coupled with Adreno 418 GPU.


RAM


Nexus 6P offers 3 GB RAM, while 5X only has 2 GB. So you get an extra gigabyte of RAM in the former.


Storage


Nexus 6P offers 32, 64 or 128 GB storage models. Nexus 5X has only 16 and 32 GB models.


Display size and type


Nexus 6P features a 5.7 inch WQHD display (AMOLED), while Nexus 5X sports a 5.2 inch FHD display (IPS). Hence, Nexus 6P has a 9% bigger screen than that of 5X.


Display resolution


Nexus 6P has a screen resolution of 2560x1440 pixels, with a density of 518 pixels per inch. Nexus 5X has a resolution of 1920x1080, with a pixels density of 423 pixels per inch. Not only do you get a higher resolution with 6P, but also around 22% more pixel density.


Camera


The primary camera is of the same specification (12.3 MP) on both the devices. The front camera is 8 MP on the 6P, and only 5 MP on 5X. Also, both the smartphones also feature laser auto-focus. Moreover, by double tapping the power button, camera app can be opened on both the devices.

Battery


Nexus 6P boasts of a battery of 3,450 mAh. Nexus 5X sports a battery of 2,700 mAh. That means almost 28% more juice on the 6P.


Dimensions


Nexus 6P is 159.3 mm in height, 77.8 mm in width and 7.3 mm in depth. Nexus 5X is 147 mm in height, 72.6 mm in width and 7.9 mm in depth. Thus, Nexus 6P is around 8% taller, 7% wider and 8% thinner in comparison.


Weight


Nexus 6P weighs 178 grams, while Nexus 5X weighs 136 grams. Thus, Nexus 5X is effectively 24% lighter.


Color options


Nexus 6P is available in three colors, viz. Aluminium, Graphite and Frost. Nexus 5X is also available in three colors, viz. Carbon, Quartz and Ice.

Other common features


Both the devices feature a fingerprint sensor at the rear. None of them support wireless charging, but both support quick charge. USB Type-C port is present on both the devices. Both of them run on stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Price


Nexus 6P is available at $499 (for 32 GB variant), $549 (for 64 GB variant), $649 (for 128 GB variant). Nexus 5X is available at $379 (for 16 GB variant), $429 (for 32 GB variant).


Verdict


Given the specifications, the Nexus 6P clearly wins over the 5X in most of the aspects. And that extra price is definitely worth it. But the 5.7 inch screen size is something which can motivate someone to think of choosing its sibling. Anyway, the picture will be more clear once we review both the devices.
